Pelican Cemetery

An annual meeting of the association is held on the second Saturday of October each year at the Pelican United Methodist Church

The cemetery is located on a hill southeast of town.  The original graveyard occupies the area on top of the hill, and in the settlement years it was surrounded by cotton fields.

The exact date of the establishment of the Pelican Cemetery is not known.  The first burial date recorded on a tombstone is 1889.

             PELICAN, LA - Funeral services for Harold F. Welborn, 88, will be held Thur. Jan. 21, 2010 at 1PM at Rose-Neath Funeral Home in Mansfield, LA, with interment in Pelican Cemetery with Military Honors. Rev. Mike Stowell, Pastor of First Baptist Church, Keithville will officiate. Visitation 5-7 PM, Wed., Jan. 20th at the funeral home.

Mr. Welborn was born on April 20, 1921 in Pelican, LA to Ira Calhoun Welborn & Amie Valentine Welborn. He celebrated communion with his Lord on Jan. 16, 2010 in Bossier City.

Preceding him in death were his parents & his lovely and devoted wife, Mary Fisher Welborn, twin brother, Howard Welborn, brother; Bill Welborn, sisters; Marguerite Fisher, Maye Baker, Blanche Sistrunk & Lissie Welborn.

Surviving Mr. Welborn are step-daughter; Ruby Walker & husband Lester, Goddaughter, Delores May & husband Paul, step-grandson, Randal Greer Sr., step-great grandson, Randal Greer Jr. & wife Leslie, step great-great grandchildren, Madelynne & Ashton Greer, numerous nieces, nephews & friends.

Mr. Welborn retired from Tenneco to enjoy his favorite sports of fishing, hunting and raising hound dogs for fox hunting. He served in the U.S. Army for 8 years and was a WWII Veteran.

Pallbearers are Ray Fisher, Wesley Fisher, John Williams, Robert Myers, Randal Greer, Sr. & Rhonny Valentine.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a charity of your choice. Rose-Neath Funeral Home
