Bellville VFW post #6522 Devotional Service was held for Lawrence Pfeffer at 7:00 p.m.,
Thursday, March 2, 2000 at the Schmidt Funeral Home Chapel in Bellville.
Funeral
Service was held at 2:00 p.m. Friday, March 3, 2000 at the St. John Lutheran Church
in Bellville with Pastor Willie Rotter and Pastor Ann D. ward officiating.
Interment followed in the Pilgrims Rest Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Jim Godwin, Pat Naff, Bubby Barrett, Duwayne Pfeffer, Jerry Cochran and Kenny Richardson.
Honorary pallbearers were Ryan and Kyle Pfeffer, and members of the Bellville VFW Post #6522.
Lawrence Herbert Pfeffer was born May 26, 1921 in Kenney, Texas, the son of Oscar and Manila
(Chernosky) Pfeffer. He grew up in Kenney where he attended the Travis School and graduated from
Bellville High School. He then attended Blinn College in Brenham.
He served his country in the U. S. Army during World War II in France and Germany and was
awarded the Purple Heart before his honorable discharge on December 12, 1945.
Lawrence was united in marriage with Erna Huebner on January 20, 1951 at the St. John Lutheran
Church in Bellville. They have made their home in Bellville where they have been members of St. John's.
Lawrence had been employed in road maintenance for the Texas Highway Department retiring after
31 years of service. He had also been employed by Austin County Farmers Mutual Fire Association, Inc.
A charter member of the Bellville VFW Post #6522 he was also a member of the American Cattlemen's
Association. He cherished the time he spent with his grandsons, Ryan and Kyle, and especially enjoyed
following their sports. He also enjoyed hunting, gardening and working his cattle.
Lawrence passed away suddenly Tuesday, February 29, 2000 in Bellville at the age of 78 years, 9 months and 3 days.
He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Erna Pfeffer; son, Arleigh Pfeffer; grandsons, Ryan and
Kyle Pfeffer, all of Bellville' sister, Lorene Hegar and her husband, Frank, of Hockley; sisters-in-law,
Gloria Pfeffer of Bellville, Ruby Potts of Angleton and Osie Lock and her husband, Everett, of Bellville;
brother-in-law, Clarence Young of Brenham, numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Woodrow Pfeffer.
In lieu of usual remembrances, friends who wish may make memorial gifts to the St. John Lutheran Scholarship Fund.
Funeral arrangements were under the direction of the Schmidt Funeral Home in Bellville.
