Funeral services for SPC Zeferino "Cowboy" Eusebio Colunga, 20, of
Bellville were held at 2 p.m. Saturday, August 16, 2003, from St. Mary's Catholic
Church in Brenham with Rev. David Ivey celebrating the funeral Mass and
Rite of Committal.
A Rosary was recited at 6 p.m. Friday, August 15, 2003 at
Knesek Bros. Funeral Chapel in Bellville. Interment was at Oak Knoll
Cemetery in Bellville, Texas with full military honors.
Born in Emmett, Idaho, Zeferino Eusebio Colunga was the son of Zeferino
and Juanita (Ramos) Colunga. He was raised in Emmett, Idaho until he moved
with his family to Bellville. He graduated from Bellville High School in 2001
where he played tackle on the Bellville High School Football team, was a
member of the Spanish Club, and a member of the National Honor Society.
SPC Colunga was awarded the Bronze Star Medal (Posthumous) for meritorious
service from April 1, 2003 to August 6, 2003 while serving as an Aircraft
Systems Repair Technician, for Troop S, 4th Squadron 2nd Armored Cavalry
Regiment, in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom. Specialist Colunga's
outstanding performance reflects great credit upon himself, the 2nd
Armored Cavalry Regiment, and the United States Army.
SPC Zeferino Eusebio "Cowboy" Colunga died Wednesday, August 6, 2003 in a
Homburg, Germany hospital.
Survived by his parents, Zeferino and Juanita Colunga of Bellville, sister
Teresa Colunga of Bellville, grandparents Guillermo and Augustina Ramos
and Teresa Reyes de Colunga, numerous aunts, uncles, cousins and many close
friends.
Preceded in death by his grandfather Eusebio Colunga.
Funeral services under the direction of Knesek Family Funeral Chapels,
Bellville, Texas.
