Funeral services for Mary Atkins Gay, 78, of East Bernard, Texas, were
held
Friday, May 2, 2003 at 1 p.m. from Knesek & Sons Funeral Chapel in Wallis
with Rev. DeWayne Mayberry officiating. Interment was at the Czech
National Cemetery near East Bernard, Texas.
Serving as pallbearers were Charlie Atkins, Marvin Atkins, Bobby Thomas,
Phillip Atkins, Donnie Kelner, and Danny Beach.
Mary was born in Millport, Alabama in Pickens County to parents Alfred L.
and Ethel V. (Hamby) Atkins. She lived and grew up in Alabama where she
attended school. Mary married Frank Gay with a ceremony held n Mobile,
Alabama. Mary was a lifelong homemaker.
Mary Atkins Gay died Wednesday, April 30, 2003 in Houston, Texas.
She is survived by her daughters Peggy McCardle and husband Cliff of
Alabama, Brenda Johnson and husband John of Alabama, Audrey Thomas of
Tyler,
Texas, Amy Thomas of East Bernard, and P.J. Thomas of East Bernard, son
Douglas Thomas of Alabama, sister Lillian Stockman of Mississippi,
brothers
Charlie Atkins of Chicago, Illinois, Tillman Atkins of Mexia, Texas and
Marvin Atkins of Grove, Oklahoma, twelve grandchildren and ten great
grandchildren.
Preceded in death by her husband Frank Gay, parents Alfred and Ethel
Atkins,
sons Madison "Hank", Williams and Larry Thomas, grandchildren, Amy and
Charlotte Elam, brother Elwood and sister Doris Atkins.
Funeral services under the direction of Knesek Family Funeral Chapels,
Wallis, Texas.
