Funeral services for Col. Kenneth Kunard, 61, of Sealy, Texas were held
Monday, July 7, 2003 at 10 a.m. from Knesek Bros. Funeral Chapel in Sealy
with Chaplain Farrar Bentley officiating. Interment was at Fort Sam
Houston Cemetery in San Antonio, Texas with full military honors.
Kenneth Kunard was born in Tell City, Indiana to parents Arthur Nicholas
and Marie (Winter) Kunard. He was raised in Tell City, Indiana.
On January 27, 1966 Kenneth Kunard was joined in marriage to Miss Sandra Sumpter in
Tippecanoe County, Indiana. Col. Kunard was retired from the National
Guard after 30 years, 28 years of commissioned service, and then transferred to
the United States Army Reserves serving with the 417th IMA Unit. While in
the military Col. Kunard completed the Infantry Officer Basic Course,
Signal Officer Advance Course, Engineer Advance Course, CASCUBE and Command and General Staff College.
In addition to his military education Col. Kunard received a Bachelor of Science Degree in Industrial Engineering from Purdue University, an Associates in Aviation Maintenance Technology from Lansing Community College, and was working on his Masters in BusinessAdministration at the University of Phoenix. He has been federally recognized as a LTC and is recognized as a Colonel and received the one Star Meritous Service
Award with the Texas State Guard. Col. Kunard was a member of the Defense
Logistics Association, Association of U.S. Army, Life member of the National
Guard Association of the United States, Life member of the Texas State
Guard Association, National Guard Association of Texas and was a member of Sigma
Tau Gamma Social Fraternity at Purdue University.
Col. Kenneth Kunard died Friday, June 27, 2003 in Sealy.
He is survived by his wife Sandy Kunard of Sealy, sons Greg Kunard and
wife Jennifer of Kemah, Texas and Matt Kunard who is currently stationed in
Jacobabad, Pakistan and will be stationed at Schofield Barracks in Hawaii
effective August 20, 2003, sisters Carol Ann French and husband Dennis of
Florida, Theresa Kunard of Helena, AL, Wanda Courtney and husband James of
Raleigh NC, Betty Kunard of Ft. Wayne, IN, brothers Jerry Kunard and wife
Patricia of Atlanta, GA, James Kunard and wife Linda of Toledo, OH, Jess
Kunard and wife Pat of Carlisle, CA and Bernard Kunard and wife Sharon of
Indianapolis, IN, granddaughter Kirsten Blaire Kunard of Kemah, Texas and
numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Arthur and Marie Kunard and
sister Angela Niehaus.
Funeral services were held under the direction of Knesek Family Funeral
Chapels, Sealy, Texas.
