Bellville Times
Elvie Lee Reeder was born Oct. 20, 1927 in the Rockhouse area to
Herman and
Lillie (Langer) Reeder.
She passed away at her home at Sharpstown
Manor in
Houston on Nov. 5, 2003 at the age of 76.
She was baptized into the Christian faith on March 11, 1928 and was
confirmed in her faith on Oct. 11, 1942 at St. John Lutheran Church
in New
Ulm where she was a member and was also a member of St. John's Women
of the
ELCA. She was an associate member of Christ the Servant Lutheran
Church in
Houston, Texas.
She was educated in the Rockhouse, Henkhaus and Industry elementary
schools
and graduated from Bellville High School in 1944. She then began her
working
career in Houston with the Joseph F. Meyer Co. and Meyerland
Corporation.
She was the primary notary of the development of the Meyerland
community.
She was employed by Stevens & Cummings Insurance, Houston EENT Eye
Section
Group for 29 years and Dr. Charles Dobbs. At TeleSystems, she
devoted many
hours raising funds for National Children's Cancer Society, American
Heart
Association and Children's Wish Foundation.
She was a member of the Texas German Society, West End Historical
Society
and a past member of the Harris County Chapter of American
Association of
Medical Assistants.
Elvie was preceded in death by her parents, Herman and Lillie
Reeder.
She will be missed by her sisters Alice Brune, Ruth Froebel and
brother-in-law Robert, nephews and niece, Arlene Brune, Larry Brune,
Kem
Coan and Reed Froebel and numerous other relatives and friends.
Pallbearers for the service were Arlen Brune, Larry Brune, John
Coan, Reed
Froebel, Steven Guettler and Ron Mahlmann. Honorary pallbearer was
Jerry
Brasher.
Arrangements were entrusted to the Koenig Strickland Funeral Home.
