Born in Ravenden Arkansas, Charles was the son of Richard Z. and Ethel (Bates) Sullins and was raised in Moran, Texas where he graduated high school. He always knew he wanted to drill oil well and that dream lead him to graduate from Texas A&M University in 1936. Because of the depression, he worked as a janitor on campus and still made the dean's list every semester.

As a young petroleum engineer for Union Producing Company in South Texas, he met and married Karine Shultz in 1936 in Robstown, Texas. They were married for 65 years prior to her death in May 203.

During WWII Charles Sullins achieved the rank of Captain and served in the 1637th engineering Construction Battalion, where he served from 1942 until 1946, in the United States, France, Germany and the Philippines. He directed the construction of railroads, bridges, roads, air strips, and building, also drilling numerous water wells. In 1959 he was promoted to General Superintendent of Production for Union Producing Company and left South Texas for Shreveport,Louisiana.

In 1967 following his transfer to Pennzoil, he and his family came to Houston. Charles and Karine bought their place at Buckhorn, outside of Bellville in March of 1968, as a place to retire. He and Karine were active members of Bellville United Methodist Church where they attended for almost 30 years. Charles and Karine were active at the Bellville Golf Club and he could be found often enjoying the game he loved for over 50 years until the age of 85.

Charles a. Sullins passed away July 8, 2003 in Buckhorn, Texas.

Charles was preceded in death by his parents, Richard and Ethel Sullins and his "pretty girl" Karine who passed away May 15, 2003.

He is survived by his son Rick and daughter in law Georgette of Houston, granddaughters Christy and Kendall and his brand new great grandson Aidan born June 20, 2003 and sisters Lavinia Blon of apple Valley, California and Maxine Hagberg of Waco, Texas.

He will be missed by his friends and family. His quiet demeanor, his hating to impose on others, his ideals which were developed in part by his coming to manhood during the great depression, his confidence and professionalism during his career contributed to the life he led, a solid American life.

Memorial contributions may be made to Methodist Children's Home, 111 Herring Ave., Waco, Texas 76708.

Funeral services under the direction of Knesek Family Funeral Chapels, 842 East Main St., Bellville, Texas.
