Funeral services for Leona Antoinette Vogelpohl Witte were held at 10 a.m.
Wednesday, August 13, 2003 at the St. John Luthern Church in Bellville
with Pastor Milroy Gregor officiating. Burial followed in the Oak Knoll
Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Jerry Ondrias, Doug Hilligiest, Terry Larson, Mike Goff,
Barry Mikeska and Bobby Frenzel.
She was born December 6, 1913 in Bellville, Texas the daughter of Charles
Richard and Antoinette Luhn Vogelpohl, she grew up and attended school in
Bellville graduating from Bellville High School.
On November 28, 1934, she
was united in marriage with Arnold charles Witte at St. John Lutheran
Church in Bellville. They made their home in Kingsville from 1945 until they
moved to Bellville in 1975. Arnold preceded Leona in death on March 27, 1988.
An active member of St. John Lutheran Church in Bellville, Leona was a
member of the Mary Circle and the prayer partner group. She was also very
active on the Hospitality Committee. She loved to meet and greet the new
people in the church and enjoyed making coffee for the Adult Sunday School
Classes.
She also enjoyed baking cookies for the children that attended
Bible School. Leona also made sure that she visited her friends and church
family that were in the nursing home or confined to their homes. A devoted
mother and grandmother Leona treasured the time she spent with her family
and loved being able to travel with them. She also enjoyed working in her
yard.
Leona Antoinette Vogelpohl Witte passed away suddenly Sunday, August 10,
2003 in Bellville at the age of 89.
She is survived by her children Gloria Lewis and her husband Virgil of
Corpus Christi, Arnold Charles Witte Jr. and his wife Billie Jean of
Onalaska and David Lynn Witte and his wife Lee of Missouri City,
grandchildren Jerry Lewis of Corpus Christi, Ann Christine Witte and
Catherine Witte, both of Houston, Scott and Andrea Witte of Katy and Paige
and Thomas Patchin of Las Vegas, Nevada. She is also survived by her 3
great grandchildren Connor Witte and Shannon and McKenna Patchin and many other
dear friends and relatives.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband, grandson, Gary
Lewis, 4 brothers and 2 sisters.
In lieu of usual remembrances friends who wish may make memorial gifts to
the St. John Lutheran Retreat Center.
Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the Schmidt Funeral Home,
Bellville, Texas.
