Memorial services for Otto H. Zander, 89, of Sealy, Texas were held
Tuesday, April 22, 2003 at 2 p.m. from the First United Methodist Church in Sealy
with Rev. Bill Webb officiating. Graveside services were held Thursday,
April 24, 2003 at 11 a.m. at Forest Park Lawndale Cemetery in Houston,
Texas.
Born and raised in the farming community of Salem (3 miles South of
Brenham), Otto was the son of Otto and Mathilda (Jeske) Zander. He came
from a family of 10 children (7 girls and 3 boys) with only one sister, Mildren
Moeller of Comfort, Texas still living.
After high school, Otto attended
Blinn College for 1 year in the business department. Otto stayed on the
farm until 1933 and then moved to Houston.
From 1941 to 1945, Otto served his country in the U.S. Army as a Staff
Sergeant in the 3rd Armored Division. During W.W.II. He spent 2 years
overseas, stationed in France, Belgium and Germany. One year was spent in
actual combat duty. While overseas, he drove a truck loaded with
ammunition for the tanks and also drove troops to the front lines. Otto even had a
glimpse of General Patton (complete with his ivory handled pistols).
After the military, Otto was back in Houston in construction and oil
field work. From 1963 to 1978, he worked in shipping and receiving at Allied
Industries, a subsidiary of Brown and Root.
In 1971 Otto married Jeanne Larson and made their home in Bellaire. Otto
retired in 1985, and he and Jeanne moved to Sealy.
Otto was a member of AARP and the VFW and American Legion Posts in Spring
Branch. His hobbies include gardening, dominoes and white wind bird
hunting. Otto played baseball in Brenham, which began a life long passion for
baseball, he specifically liked the Atlanta Braves.
Otto Henry Zander died Friday, April 18, 2003 in Sealy, Texas.
Survved by his wife Jeanne Zander of Sealy, stepdaughter Norma Gainer and
her husband Sam, stepdaughter Janet Larson, all of Houston, his sister
Mildred Moeller of Comfort, Texas and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Preceded in death by his parents, 2 brothers and 6 sisters.

Funeral services under the direction of Knesek Family Funeral Chapels in
Sealy, Texas.
