Bellville Times
Marjorie Evelyn Miner "Pat" Bernshausen was born
February 24, 1923 to Lewis Edson and Lillian Mae Fringer Miner, in
Golden, Colo., where she grew up and
attended school with her brother "Bud" and sisters Thelma,
Lois, Mae, and Betty.
While still in Colo., she met native Texan, Arthur Robert
Bernshausen. On July 7, 1942, they traveled to Cheyene, Wyo. where
they were united in marriage. Arthur was a career member of the U.
S. Armed Forces moving his
family frequently across the country and through out the world. His
many years of active duty, which included service in both World War
II and the Korean Conflict, left Pat alone much of the time to
pursue her life's joy - raising and caring for her children.
Although Pat was slight in stature,
through out these difficult years in the eyes of her children - none
stood taller! Ellington Air Force Base was the family's final
assignment and in 1958, Arthur retired from military service. The
family remained in Houston, where the couple's five children
finished high school and started families
of their own.
Arthur and Pat were together, at last. In 1975, Arthur declared it
was time to take his bride home - to Austin County. That year the
couple moved to Sealy where they lived until his death in 1982. Pat
stayed in Sealy until
1989, when she moved to Austin to be with and care for her son,
Donnie.
After Donnie's death in 1990, with her other four children scattered
across the country, Pat joined her youngest daughter, Barbara, in
1991 in Columbus, Ohio.
Pat was a member of the Sealy Chapter, Order of the Eastern Star. A
beloved daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother, great
grandmother and friend, she will always be remembered for her love
of the simple things. With her,
less was always more. Pat was a puzzle-worker extraordinaire; she
loved working puzzles of all sorts. With her friends and family, she
enjoyed bicycling, cross-stitching, reading, playing Scrabble and
Canasta; and with her grandchildren, she played every board game
brought to her. An indication of her humility, and a reflection of
her inner peace, Pat especially loved countryside flowers, colorful
landscapes, and calming views. Her courageous and steadfast spirit
will serve forever as a source of inspiration and strength for those
she leaves behind.
Pat passed away Friday, February 20, 2004 in Columbus, Ohio. She was
80 years old.
She is survived by her children, JoAnn McCaskill and husband John of
Jersey Village, Larry Dean Bernshausen of Houston, Barbara Sue
Pritchard and husband James of Columbus, Ohio and David Michael
Bernshausen and wife Anna of Houston; grandchildren John McCaskill
and wife Pamela, Janice Lynn Molina and husband James Thomas, Dean
Bernshausen and wife Alicia, Robin Wagner and
