Mary Joe McCollum Bishop, 80, passed away July 12, 2004, from complications due to cancer. Born and raised in Houston, Joe, as everyone called her, attended Sam Houston State University, where she met her husband of 60 years Jim Bishop Sr. She is survived by Jim, their three children, Jim Bishop Jr., Candi Harrison and Dainty Lewis, their grandchildren, Tech Sergeant USAF Jeff Bishop, Josh Bishop, Remmic and Heaven Lewis, Trey and Jordan Harrison and Elizabeth Harrison Cooper. She also has two great-grandchildren, Emma and Allison Bishop. Joe and Jim Bishop raised their family in Houston where their home was always open to friends and family. Joe was very active in many volunteer organizations. In 1977, she and Jim moved to Bellville, where she became just as active in the community, as an organizing charter member for the Bluebonnet Society as well as the Bellville Historical Society. For 20 years, Joe owned the well known Bellville antique shop, ³A Special Place.² Her hobbies included gardening, quilting and baking. Joe attended church and faithfully allowed God to guide her way through life. She embodied a surprising sense of humor that always kept her family and friends laughing. She adored her family and told them every day how much she loved them. In fact, ³I love you² were the last words she offered to us all. May she rest in peace. We would like to express a special thanks to Dana Sossaman, her Hospice nurse, our deepest gratitude to her longterm caregiver, Genevieve Dartez, and thanks to Elsie Journet and Hazel and Debra Cormier. Joeıs service was at the Bellville United Methodist Church and her burial was at Pilgrimıs Rest Cemetery on July 16, 2004. Family requests any contributions may be made to the Austin County Unit of the American Cancer Society (P.O. Box 501, Bellville, Texas 77418) or Houston Hospice (8811 Gaylord, Suite 100, Houston, Texas 77024). Posted by Joy Neely
