Graveside services for Roland Duncan, 76, of Sealy, were held Friday, July 30, 2004, at 5 p.m. in Sealy Cemetery with the Rev. Eric Kimpel officiating. Serving as pallbearers were Dennis Brack Tipton, II, Corey Tipton, Roger Schmitz and Jamie Armendariz. Born in Abilene, Roland Ray Duncan was the son of James Wesley Duncan and Alice Hurone Young Duncan. He was raised in Abilene and attended the Wylie School. Roland enlisted in the United States Navy in January of 1946. He served as Seaman First Class on the USS Joson and the USS Hooper Island during World War II and was honorably discharged in December of 1947. Roland worked in heating and air conditioning maintenance with Brown and Root, retiring as Foreman. On May 23, 1970, Roland and the former Miss Minnie Grenz were married, with ceremony held in Sealy. He was a member of the Sealy Lions Club and a 31 year member of American Legion Post #442. Roland Ray Duncan died Wednesday, July 28, 2004, in Sealy. He is survived by his stepson, Dennis Tipton and wife Becky of Bay City; brother, Grady H. ³Mutt² Duncan and wife Lerline; sister-in-law, Wilma Duncan; grandchildren, Devon Denise Tipton, Dennis Brack Tipton II, and Corey John Tipton. He is preceded in death by his parents, James and Alice Duncan; wife, Minnie Grenz Tipton Duncan; sister, Lorena Duncan Hines; brothers, James Leroy, Silas, Truman and Aubry Duncan.
