Funeral services for Jack G. Dunn, 83, of Belville were held on Tuesday, Nov. 9, 2004 at 2 p.m. from St. Mary's Episcopal Church in Bellville with the Rev. Bob Gribble officiating. Interment was in the Oak Knoll Cemetery in Bellville. Serving as pallbearers were Dyer Smith, Monte Richardson, Wade Richardson, Justin Richardson, Dylan Dunn, Charles Grube and Fred Sterling. Jack Gardner Dunn was born February 7, 1921 in Bryan Texas. He was raised in Bellville and graduated with the class of 1939. He graduated from Texas A&M University in 1943, and served with the "Greatest Generation" in World War II as an officer with the 730th Engineers Depot Company, in Papua New Guinea and the Philippines. During this time he was a participant in the Corregidor Muster, and was charged with gathering all Aggies on ships and land to attend this very important roll call. Upon returning from abroad, he was employed by Humble Oil as a production accountant. He later became director of Charpiot and Dunn, working in the Oilfield and Engineering Contracting business. He also served as Austin County State Bank Director, Vice Chairman, and Chairman of the Board, as President of the BISD School Board, on the Bellville General Hospital Board, and the St. Mary's Episcopal Church Vestry as Junior and Senior Warden. Some of his passions in life were gardening, cattle ranching, and quail hunting. Papa Jack was a gentleman in every sense of the word and he is at peace now, working dogs on a big covey, the sun at his back, and the evening breeze blowing gently in his face. Jack G. Dunn passed away on Friday, Nov. 5, 2004 in Bellville. He is survived by daughters, Susan Richardson and husband John of Bellville, Nancy Smith and husband Charley of Bellville; son, John Dunn of Houston; sisters, Mildred Dunn Sterling and Ruth Dunn Grube; grandchildren, Monte Richardson and wife Allison of Bellville, Wade Richardson, Justin Richardson, Dyer Smith, Dylan Dunn; and great grandchild, Mary Elizabeth Richardson. He was preceded in death by his parents, George H. Dunn Sr. and Mary Alice Dunn; wife, Dorothy Charpiot Dunn; brothers, George H. Dunn, Jr., and James R. Dunn; sister, Mary Jane Dunn Shannon.
