Bellville Times
Funeral services for Codell Finney, 85, of Bellville, were held Tuesday, Jan. 4, 2005 at 10 a.m. from Longmire Church of Christ in Conroe with Mr. Joe Goodspeed and Mr. Justis Wilson co-officiating. Interment was at the Resthaven Cemetery in Houston. Pallbearers serving were John Harris, Jerry Harris, Wendell Whitfield, Jim Wyatt, Edward Conrad and Joe Lee Wadsworth. Born in New Castle, Codell was the daughter of Gus and Tempie Reed Jennings. She was raised in West Texas in Littlefield. The former Cordell Jennings married Thomas C. Finney on Aug. 12, 1939 with ceremony held in Littlefield. She worked as a sales person in the auto parts department of Western Auto. Longmire Road Church of Christ was very dear to Codell's heart. Over decades, she spent many hours worshipping the Lord there and attending classes and various functions. If the doors were opened, Codell was there. Codell was a wonderful cook, of all kinds of foods, but with a special touch for fresh vegetables, often from her garden and for pastries from scratch. Many dishes from her kitchen have taken Christina love into the homes of many in the community. Several families struck by illness or bereavement were beneficiaries. The Finney's home was often opened to many. Delicious food was relished and delightful conversation was enjoyed. Codell Finney died Dec. 29, 2004 in Bellville. She is survived by her daughter, Elouise Harris and husband, John, of Bellville; sister, Juanita Carr of Spring; sister-in-law, Noreen Wood of Greenwood, Ark.; grandchildren, Jerry Harris and wife, Rachel, of South Plainfield, NJ; and four great-grandchildren, Laine, Justin, Ryan and Dillon. She was preceded in death by her parents, Gus and Tempie Jennings; husband, Thomas C. Finney; three brothers; one sister; and her daughter, Loretta.
