Phyllis Lillian Weber Hayden passed away April
14, 2004, in Bellville
General Hospital. Born June 3, 1918 near Ackley, Iowa, she was the
fourth of five children born to Solomon F. and Mary Wykle Weber.
Following graduation from Ackley High School, she obtained her
teaching certificate at Iowa State Teachers College and taught
grades K-8 in a one-room schoolhouse in the Ackley area for seven
years.
On August 22, 1942, she married L.M. "Buck" Hayden. When
Buck returned from service in World War II in 1946, they moved to
Texas City where Phyllis was active in the First Presbyterian Church
and Home Demonstration Club. In 1976 they moved to Bellville and
became active members of Bellville United Methodist Church.
She is survived by her husband of 61 years, Buck Hayden of
Bellville; her daughter, LaBeth Hayden Pondish of Clear Lake City;
her son, Gary and his wife Betty of Sugar Land; her grandsons,
Matthew and Patrick Hayden; her brothers, Merle Weber of Ackley,
Iowa and Elmer Weber and wife Mardel of Sheffield, Iowa; her
sister-in-law, Sally Miller of Bradenton, Fla.; and numerous nieces,
nephews and myriad friends.
A memorial service was held at Bellville United Methodist Church,
234 S. Masonic on Sunday April 18, 2004 at 2 p.m.
For those desiring, the family requests that memorial contributions
be made to your local "Meals on Wheels" organization.
The family wishes to express special thanks to Letty Villasana and
Adrianna Conde, Dr. Don Bosse, and the staff of Bellville General
Hospital for their loving care of Phyllis.
