Funeral Services for Elroy Herman Holtkamp, 71, of Sealy, were held Friday, Nov. 26, 2004 at 2 p.m. from Trinity Lutheran Church in Sealy with the Rev. Dale Leland officiating. Interment was at Pilgrims Rest Cemetery in Bellville. Serving as pallbearers were Mike Holtkamp, David Feldmann, Ron Feldmann, Billy Gillie, Wayne Ashorn and Philip Arthur. Honorary pallbearers were his grandchildren, Clayton and Carter Holtkamp and Bradley and Erin Nichols. Elroy Herman Holtkamp was born m White Hall, Grimes County. He was the son of Henry and Emma Finke Holtkamp. At the age of 10, Elroy moved with his family to Sealy where he lived until his death. He was a lifetime member of the Lutheran faith being baptized at Salem Lutheran in White Hall on April 30, 1933 and reaffirming his faith through confirmation at Trinity Lutheran in Sealy on Sept. 27,1946. After graduation from Sealy High School, Elroy entered the U.S. Army where he served his country in the Korean conflict spending time in Germany as an Army Medic. Upon his return home, Elroy attended college and began work at Cameron Iron Works, then WKM in Houston. On Aug. 31,1959, Elroy married Grace Schroeder at St. John Lutheran Church in Bellville. After leaving WKM, Elroy worked for Sealy Lumber, then became manager of Home Lumber and Bison Building Materials. In 1988, Elroy ventured out forming Homco Construction in Katy. Throughout the years, Elroy was an active member of Trinity Lutheran Church serving as congregational president and Sunday School superintendent. He was a longtime member of the Peters Gun Club where he enjoyed making the sauce for the annual barbecue. Elroy also helped organize the Sealy Jaycees, was a member of the American Legion Post #442 and coached for the Sealy Little League. Elroy enjoyed hunting, going to the camp house on the Brazos River and working in the shop. He was loved by his 4 grandchildren who called him Pop Pop and he called them by a different nickname each time he saw them. Elroy Herman Holtkamp died Nov. 23,2004 in Katy at the age of 71. Survivors are: His wife of 45 years. Grace; children, Jeffrey Holtkamp and wife Deanna of Seguin, Kimberly Nichols and husband Danny of Katy; grandchildren, Clayton and Carter Holtkamp of Seguin and Erin and Bradley Nichols of Katy; sisters-in-law, Naomi Holtkamp of Rosenberg, Elfrieda Holtkamp of Sealy and Doris Holtkamp of Sealy; numerous other relatives and friends. Preceded in death by his parents, Henry and Emma Holtkamp, his brothers, Fritz, Herbert, Henry and Edmund Holtkamp; his sisters Edna Feldmann, Meta Gillie and Rosina Holtkamp.
