A memorial service celebrating the life of Frances Katherine Lala was held at 11 a.m. Monday, January 26, 2004 at Immanuel United Church of Christ with Rev. Fred Banda officiating and Kathryn Hofmann as organist.

Pallbearers were David Schuelke, Dennis Lala, Robert Obsta, Don Schuelke, David Henry and George Thiel.

Frances Zettel was born August 16, 1897, in Nelsonville, Austin County, the youngest of eight children born to Frederick William "Fritz" and Ann Drevojanek Zettel. On July 4, 1914 she married Frank Lala in Nelsonville. Frances and Frank moved from Austin County early in their married life to Guy, Ft. Bend County. Frank was engaged in farming and Frances was a homemaker. After Frank's death on July 6, 1981, she lived with her daughter Naomi in Needville. Frances was a member of the Immanuel United Church of Christ in Needville.

Frances Katherine Lala, 106, passed away Thursday, January 22, 2004.

She is survived by her loving daughter Naomi Lala Schuelke of Needville who has been her caregiver for the past 20 years. Other survivors are grandchildren Kathryn Schuelke Hoffman and husband George of Cincinnati, Ohio, David Schuelke and wife Sue of Cypress, Don Schuelke and wife Katherine of Sugar Land, Dennis Lala and wife Carol of Goliad, Egene Lala Henry and husband David Henry of Victoria; great grandchildren Jennifer Lee and Amy Elizabeth Schuelke, Katherine Elizabeth and Allison Elizabeth Schuelke, Tiffany and Wendy Lala, Stacy and Cristina Henry and Jeremy Lala.  

Frances was preceded in death by her husband Frank Edward Lala, son  Elgin Charles Lala, grandson James Lala, her parents, and brothers Fritz, Gustav, John, William, Frank, Charles and sister Anna Zettel Slacik.
