    Greg Lundgren, 46 of Columbus, sustained a fatal injury on Thurs., Jan. 29, 2004, while skiing in Utah and left this earth on Sat, January 31, 2004, at 3:00 p.m.

Greg touched many lives and there was a celebration of his life on Wed., February 4, 2004 at Henneke Funeral Home in Columbus at 6:00 p.m. Visitation at Henneke Funeral Home from 4:00 - 6:00 p.m. on Wed, Feb. 4. Funeral services and burial was held in Elgin, his hometown, on Thurs., Feb. 5 at 2:00 p.m. at the First United Methodist Church and burial in Elgin City Cemetery.

Pallbearers were David Lundgren, Randy Lundgren, Gary Lundgren,
Brian Lundgren, Harlan Neidit, Robert Taylor, Tom Gerik, and Randy Hoyer.

Greg is survived by his wife Sandy, 3 children Jay, Jeff, and Ginny, all
of Columbus; sister Nancy Hoyt of Waco; brothers Stan Lundgren of
California, Brad and Mark Lundgren, and parents E.O. (Sammie) and Shirley Lundgren, all of Elgin. Other survivors include numerous relatives and treasured friends.

 He was born in Elgin, Tx, on October 31, 1957. He graduated from Elgin High School in 1976 where he participated in numerous sporting activities. He attended Southwest Texas State University where he was member of the soccer team and graduated in May 1981.

Upon graduation from SWTSU, Greg accepted a teaching/coaching position in Columbus where he has remained for twenty-three years.

During the twenty-three years that Greg taught at CISD, he touched the
lives of many students with his unique teaching style. Over the years, he
has taught social studies, health and P.E., and often proclaimed himself
³Teacher of the Year.²

His coaching duties included football, basketball, track, tennis, and
golf. Greg has been quoted in saying about his coaching position, ³I have a job that when I walk out on the football field on Friday night and hear the ³National Anthem² being played, I realize how lucky I am after twenty-three years to be able to do what I do.²

Gregıs many activities included fishing, golfing, running, skiing and
numerous pranks played on friends and colleagues.

Greg was a member of the Texas High School Coaches Association, the
Coastal Conservation Association, the Houston Area Runnersı Club and the CCFPPA (Columbus Coaches and Friends Poker Players Association).
 
Gregıs passion for fishing took him on many trips to Port OıConnor with
numerous friends, an annual fishing trip to Canada with his father and
relatives and he was the organizer of the annual summer fishing trips to
many different locations.

When not fishing, Greg could be found on a golf course somewhere, but
his true passion took him across the United States where he participated in numerous running events.

One of his most treasured running accomplishments was qualifying and
finishing the Boston Marathon in April 2003 where family and friends cheered him on.
He was a veteran Houston Marathon runner and recently completed his
eleventh marathon to again qualify him for Boston. Another great accomplishment was completing the Big Sur Marathon twice
in California.

His passion for running inspired and touched the lives of many people.

 In lieu of flowers, the family has requested memorial contributions to
the Greg Lundgren Memorial Scholarship Fund.

Greg died doing what he enjoyed the most, living life to its fullest.
