Funeral services for Ben "Rex" Maresh, 91, of Bleiblerville were held on Tuesday, Dec. 7, 2004 at 10 a.m. from Nelsonville Brethren Church in Nelsonville with the Rev. Michael Groseclose officiating. Interment was at National Cemetery near Nelsonville. Serving as pallbearers were Mitchell Juergens, Dwayne Juergens, Trason Maresh, Kenneth Wehring, Roy Stepan and Allen Stepan. Honorary pallbearer was Sanjay Singh. Born in Nelsonville, Ben was the son of Joe and Agnes Barabas Maresh. He was raised in Scranton Grove and attended school in Scranton Grove. On Nov. 25, 1937 Mr. Ben Maresh was married to Miss Alida Wehring with a ceremony held at nelsonville Brethren Church in Nelsonville. Ben was the owner of Maresh Grocery in Bleiblerville. During his life he ventured in many endeavors which included building hurricane fencing, working as an appraiser for Austin County Precinct 2 in the Road and Bridge Department and he was a farmer and rancher. Ben was a member of the Nelsonville Brethren Church where he served as an Elder for many years. He was also members of Nelsonville / Bleiblerville S.P.J.S.T., Bleiblerville Volunteer Fire Department, Mutual Aid Society, Austin County Farm Bureau, Austin County Game and Fish, Austin County Cattlemen Association, Board of Directors of Bluebonnet Electric Coop, past president of National Cemetery and Stark's Domino Club. Ben "Rex" Maresh died Saturday, Dec. 4, 2004 in Bellville. He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Alida Maresh of Bleiblerville; daughter, Carol Sue "Susie" Juergens and husband Conrad of Sealy; sons, Barry Maresh of Houston and Donald Maresh and wife, Laurece, of Brenham; grandchildren, Mitchell Juergens, Rexanne Singh and husband Sanjay, Dwayne Juergens and Trason Maresh; great grandchildren, Katy and Alyssa Singh and numerous nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents, Joe and Agnes Maresh; infant son, Ben Maresh, Jr.; brother and sister-in-law, Edwin and Lydia Maresh; and sisters and brothers-in-law, Sadie and Otto Chernosky, Milady and William Stepan, Ruth Stepan Slovak and Alfred Stepan and Frank Slovak, Lillie and John Stepan and Alma and Woodrow Lahrman. Memorials may be made to Nelsonville Brethren Church Building Fund, 332 Nelsonville Church Road, Bellville, Texas 77418.
