Edward Herbert Necker, Sr. was born October 13, 1924 in Peters, the son of Herbert Otto and California Siegert Necker. He grew up in Peters attending school in Peters and Bellville, graduating from Bellville High School. On April, 3, 1954, Edward was united in marriage with Annie Ruth Stanford in China Springs. Edward and Ruth lived in Columbus, Sealy, Bellville, Cat Spring and Brenham over the years. During his working years, Edward was owner/operator of Necker Enterprises, a construction and home remodeling business. He considered himself a skilled craftsman in his trade and took great pride in quality workmanship. He enjoyed gardening, fishing, hunting and taking care of his animals and his grandchildren. Mr. Necker found great joy in seeing the fruits of his labors. A member of the Fellowship Baptist Church in Brenham and Baptist Men's Organizations of the churches he attended, Edward loved the Lord, the Bible and serving the Lord through mission's work. He took great joy in helping with construction of the buildings for churches in Industry, Frelsburg, the Rio Grande Valley and Mexico. He was also a member of the Cat Spring Volunteer Fire Department. Edward passed away Monday, November 1, 2004 in Brenham at the age of 80. He is survived by his wife, Annie Ruth Necker of Brenham; and children: John Mark and Rosie Necker of Sealy; Ed, Jr. and Lisa Necker of Marble Falls; Cheryl and Bob Zeltzmann of North Platte, Nebraska; Mary and Tom Sheehan of Bedford, Kentucky; Paul Necker of Hempstead; Dorcas and Doug Schroeder of Brenham; Deborah and Ray Morgan of Bend, Oregon; and Rebecca and David Byers of Washington. He is also survived by 17 grandchildren; his sisters, Ruth Ann Villeneuve of Galveston, Shirley Phillips of Onalaska, and Mary Ellen Hodde of Houston; and many other friends and relatives. He was preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Dorothy Hutchins. A memorial service was held at 3 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 6, 2004 at the First Baptist Church in Sealy with the Rev. Merle Blado and the Rev. Darren Donaldson officiating. In lieu of usual remembrances, friends who wish may make memorial gifts to the American Diabetes Association or to Miracle Farm of Brenham.
