Funeral services for Benjamin Gaines O'Brien, Jr., 62, of Bellville were held Tuesday, Nov. 23, 2004 at 11:00 a.m, from First Baptist Church of Dime Box with Rev. Ruehl Cooper officiating. Interment was at the St. John Lutheran Cemetery in Dime Box. Pallbearers serving were Darrell Sullivan, Briag Stewart, Calvin Hickmore, Duane Mosely, Phillip R. Allison and Randy Pantilla. Born in Houston, Ben was the son of Benjamin G. O'Brien, Sr. and Nora (Sample) O'Brien. Ben attended Cooley Elementary School in Houston Heights, graduating from Spring Valley schools. He served his country in the United States Army, serving in the Korean War becoming a sergeant in the Army Unit of the Artillery Division. Benjamin O'Brien, Jr. married the former Connie Sue Higgins March of 1962 with ceremony held in Missouri. When he was out of the service, he joined the Harris County Sheriff Department; working with his dad until he became a lieutenant. Ben then decided to go into other business ventures of his own and Connie stood right by him in all his business ventures. Ben worked as a land management consultant. Benjamin Gaines O'Brien; Jr. died Friday, Nov. 19,2004 in Bellville. He will be missed by his sister and friends but remembered by all for the good things that were shared. He is survived by his sister Shirley J. Burleson of Palestine, Texas, and all his special friends. Preceded in death by his parents, Ben and Nora O'Brien and wife Connie O'Brien.
