Funeral services for Milton Raeke, 85, of New Ulm, were held at 11 a.m.
Friday, Dec. 17, 2004, at St. John Lutheran Church in New Ulm with the Rev.
Bill Mosley and the Rev. Milroy Gregor officiating. Visitation began after
11 a.m. on Thursday at the Zaskoda Chapel in Industry where family received
friends from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Mr. Raeke lay in state at the church from 10
a.m. Friday until service time.
Interment followed in the Industry Methodist Church cemetery. Pallbearers in
service were Ken Muenzler, Dale Muenzler, Jay Muenzler, David ³Bootsie²
Galle, Garth Griffith, Tommy Richter.
Mr. Raeke was born April 21, 1919, in the Rockhouse Community of Austin
County, Texas, the son of Ernest and Edna Muenzler Raeke. He was baptized
and confirmed at the Industry United Methodist Church and attended Rockhouse
schools. He graduated from Fayetteville High School and served in the United
States Navy during World War II from Oct. 25, 1944 until Feb. 26, 1946.
He married Lydia Elenora Ashorn on Oct. 29, 1949, at St. John Lutheran
Church in New Ulm and became a member of St. John Lutheran Church after
their marriage. A lifetime resident of the New Ulm area, he was a carpenter
and home builder for many years. He also farmed and ranched his entire life.
He was a member of the Industry West End Lions Club and the New Ulm Sons of
Hermann Lodge. He enjoyed wood working, playing dominos, and hunting. He was
an avid baseball fan and most of all enjoyed spending time with his family
especially his grandchildren.
Mr. Raeke passed away Tuesday, Dec. 14, 2004, at the Bellville hospital at
the age of 85 years, 7 months and 23 days.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Ernest and Edna Muenzler Raeke; his
father-in-law and mother-in-law, Arthur and Milda Hinkel Ashorn.
Survivors include his wife of 55 years, Lydia Raeke; daughter, Cynthia Malek
and husband Rudy; son, Curt Raeke and wife Sheila, all of New Ulm;
grandsons, Reese, Anthony and Braden Raeke, and Ryan Malek; sister, Alyce
Hale and husband Otis of San Antonio; and nephews also survive.
Memorials may be made to St. John Lutheran Church in New Ulm.
