Elma Lenore Knauth Sager was born February 22, 1911 in Granger, to parents Arthur and Ella Homeyer Knauth. She was baptized on March 19, 1911. She grew up and attended schools in Granger and Williamson Counties. After graduating from Granger High School, she attended Texas Lutheran College where she met her future husband, Lenard Sager. On September 10, 1933, Elma and Lenard were united in marriage in Granger. Elma taught in public schools in Williamson and DeWitt counties. In 1942, she and Lenard moved to Bellville where they were members of St. John Lutheran Church. Lenard preceded Elma in death on August 30, 1999. Elma was an active member of St. John's where she taught Vacation Bible School and was a member of the Mary's Circle. She was also a Charter Member of the Board of Directors for the Bellville Swimming Pool, had served as Room Mother, and was a member of both the Garden Club and Sewing Club. A loving wife and mother, Elma was a good housekeeper and an excellent cook who enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren. She passed away Saturday May 29, 2004, in Seguin, at the age of 93. She is survived by her son, Harold Sager of San Antonio; grandchildren, Anne and John McKinnerney, and Elizabeth and Randy Don Carlos, all of Austin; great grandchildren, William and Grace McKinnerney, also of Austin; sister, Norma Andres of Jarrell; and numerous nieces, nephews and many friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, brothers, Melvin, and Raymond Knauth, and sister, Viola Cass. Following the interment at the Oak Knoll Cemetery, a memorial service was held at 3 p.m. Wednesday, June 2, 2004, at St. John Lutheran Church in Bellville with Pastor H. Eldon Akerman officiating. Pallbearers were Luella Spence, Herbert Schumann, Katy Whitis, Katherine Clark, John Hruska and Al Sander. Friends who wish may make memorial gifts to the St. John Lutheran Church, 520 N.
