Dean Arthur Venghaus was born June 15, 1934 in Zimmerscheidt. He passed away May 29, 2004 in Houston after a brief illness. Dean attended the Zimmerscheidt School until the eighth grade and then graduated from Columbus High School in 1951. He married Peggy Lou Faist on August 22, 1954 at St. John Lutheran Church in New Ulm. He lived in the Zimmerscheidt community his entire life. Dean worked in the sand and gravel industry with Horton & Horton in Columbus, Eagle Lake, Victoria, & Seadrift for many years. In 1984, he started full-time farming and ranching operations. Dean was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Frelsburg, having served on the church council for numerous years including the immediate past president. He was also a member of the Colorado County Farm Bureau Board of Directors, having previously served as President and Secretary-Treasurer. He was instrumental in starting Ag in the Classroom for third grade students. Dean was a charter member of the Frelsburg Volunteer Fire Department. He served as Election judge of the local precinct and was a member of the Bernardo Sons of Herman. He also served in the National Guard from 1952 until 1962. Dean enjoyed working with his cattle, hunting, playing dominoes, and visiting friends. Most of all, he enjoyed watching his grandchildren¹s various activities including ball games, concerts, recitals, and drama performances. He was preceded in death by his parents Arthur and Emma Brokmeyer Venghaus. He is survived by his wife Peggy and by son and daughter-in-law Gregory and Edna Venghaus of Columbus, daughters and son in laws Patti and Steven Glaeser of Columbus and Donna and Frankie Krumrey of Bellville. Dean is also survived by seven grandchildren: Jessica Burris, Jennifer Venghaus, Evan Venghaus, Amanda Glaeser, and Hannah Glaeser, all of Columbus, Ashley Krumrey and Morgan Krumrey of Bellville. Also surviving include brother Emmit Venghaus of Columbus and mother-in-law Frieda Faist of New Ulm. Funeral services were held at Trinity Lutheran Church in Frelsburg, Tuesday June 1, 2004 at 2 p.m. with the Rev. Bill Mosley officiating. Burial was in Trinity Lutheran Cemetery in Frelsburg. Pallbearers were Lance Taylor, Ronald Venghaus Jr., Leslie Heinsohn, Leon Hattermann, Marvin Becker, and Russell Lindquist. Honorary pallbearer was close friend Eddie Glover. Memorials may be made to the Trinity Lutheran Church Memorial Fund in Frelsburg. Posted by Joy Neely
