On Saturday, May 22, 2004 at 2 p.m., a Homegoing Celebration for Ms. Nola
Thae Whitmire-Cummings was held at Mt. Zion Missionary Baptist Church in
Bellville with the Rev. Marcardale Cummings and the Rev. Tony Swanks
delivering the eulogy. The pallbearers in service were Deacons of the Mt.
Zion Missionary Baptist Church. Honorary pallbearers were James Whitmire,
Sr., David Cummings, Marcardale Cummings, Sr., Dedric Cummings, Franklin
Austin, Michael Davis, Courtney Cooper Smith, Marcell Cummings, Marcardell
Cummings, Jr., Thomas Earl Austin, Jamontrell Seals.
Nola Whitmire-Cummings was born January 8, 1934, to Lillie Mae Whitmire. She
was reared in the Ives Creek Community by John and Delia Cummings. She
attended school at Austin County High School in Sealy. She confessed Christ
at an early age at Pleasant Grove Missionary Baptist Church where her
foreparents were founding members. Later, she joined Mt. Zion Baptist Church
where she remained a member until God called her to her heavenly home. She
was a good neighbor and friend. She was always kind and helpful to everyone
whom she came in contact with. She was a mild mannered woman and always kept
peace among her loved ones. As a mother, she gave what she could. After you
became of age, she would just let you have your way.
Nola Thae Whitmire-Cummings passed away on May 16, 2004.
She is preceded in death by her mother, one daughter, and one brother.
She leaves to cherish her memories two loving daughters, Clementene
Cummings-Cooper, and Jacqueline Williams; one son, the Rev. Marcardale
Cummings, Sr.; five granddaughters; five grandsons; two great grandchildren;
a very special cousin, James Whitmire, Sr.; numerous cousins, and other
relatives, friends and extended family members.
Funeral arrangements were under the direction of Diggs Funeral Home,
Bellville.
