Maxine Coats Brooks was born May 8, 1918 in Mertzon, Texas the daughter of
James Tillman and Etta Elmira Murry Coats. She died Friday, April 28, 2006
in Conroe surrounded by her family.
Funeral services were conducted at 2 p.m., Tuesday, May 2, 2006 at Schmidt
Funeral Home Chapel with the Pastor Greg Young officiating. Interment
followed Millheim Cemetery.
Maxine grew up and attended school in Mertzon.
 Maxine was united in marriage on August 4, 1935 to Clarence  H. Brooks.
Maxine and Clarence made their home in West Texas for most of their married
lifetime. 
After Clarence retired in 1979 they moved to Sealy. Clarence preceded Maxine
in death on August 5, 1988 after 50 years of marriage.
A devoted wife, mother and grandmother, Maxine spent most of her years
caring for her family, and was constantly praised for her wonderful southern
cooking. She enjoyed dancing, fishing and playing Canasta.
She is survived by: her children -- Deloris Huffman, Hilton Hugh Brooks and
Virginia Ray Chorak; 8 grandchildren; 12 great grandchildren; 7 great-great
grandchildren; her companion of her golden years -- Leonard Waggoner of
Shelby; and many friends and other relatives. She was preceded in death by
her parents, her husband and one grandchild.
