Funeral services for Mary J. Burleson, 85, of Bellville, were held Friday, May 5, 2006 at 4 p.m. from Knesek Bros. Funeral Chapel in Bellville with the Rev. John Tyler officiating. Interment was at the Oak Knoll Cemetery in Bellville. She died in her sleep Tuesday, May 3, 2006 in Bellville. Mary was born in Shelby, Texas to Joe and Herminia (Pilcik) Sklar. She was raised in Shelby and attended Skull Cerek School. On June 29, 1943 the former Miss Mary Sklar was joined in marriage to Mr. Cuba L. Burleson with a ceremony held at Immaculate Catholic Church in Industry. She was a life long homemaker and a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Industry, the Garden Club of Bellville, Austin county Fair Association and many other groups. She loved to cook, garden, sew and do for others. Burleson is survived by her daughters, Mary Dillon and Clarence Lacey of Houston and Cindy Kiemstead and husband Jerry of Cypress; sons -- Cuba Joe Burleson and wife Linda of Bellville; Ed Burleson and wife Glenda of Spring; and David Burleson and wife Becky of Sealy; sister, Olivia Lane of Houston; brothers Joe J. Sklar and wife Ida of Bellville and John Sklar and wife Dot of Brenham; grandchildren Brandt Dillon and wife Melinda, Clint Kiemstead and wife Amy, Kelli Burleson and Fiance Matt Cain; Stacy Pepper and husband Bruce; Michelle Burleson; Travis Burleson; Evie Burleson; Lindsey Hudson and husband Chad; and Thomas Wehring; great grandchildren, Miranda Dillon, Kennedy, Graham and Luke Kiemsteadt, and Ashley Pepper; and numerous nieces, nephews and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, Joe and Herminia Sklar; husband, Cuba L. Burleson; and brother, Sylvester Sklar. Serving as pallbearers were her grandchildren, Brandt Dillon, Clint Kiemsteadt, Travis Burleson, Thomas Wehring, Bruce Pepper and Matt Cain and her nephews Armando Mendiola and Louis Dehmer.
