Funeral services for Vertie B. Engelbrecht, 90, of Wallis, Texas were held Thrusday, July 27, 2006 at 2:00 p.m. from Knesek & Sons Funeral Chapel in Wallis with Rev. Russ Davis officiating. Interment was at Wallis City Cemetery in Wallis. Pallbearers serving were Darrell Engelbrecht, Clay Engelbrecht, Neal Lawry, Tony Medley, Wayne Baker and Dennis Kulhanek. Honorary pallbearers serving were Bennie Mize, Jake Engelbrecht and Rev. Howard Boyd. Born in Liberty Hill, Texas, Vertie was the daughter of Lawrence A. and Lula Mae (Chaiers) Wilson. She was raised in Liberty Hill and Harlington and graduated from Harlington High School in Harlington, Texas. Vertie worked as a bookkeeper in the banking business. The former Miss Vertie B. Wilson married Filbert Engelbrecht on January 2, 1934 with ceremony held in Harlington, Texas. Vertie was a member of the First Wallis Baptist Church, Home Demonstration Club, (Austin Co. Extension Club), Square Dancer Club for 60 years and numerous civic organizations in Harlington. Vertie B. Engelbrecht died Wednesday, July 25, 2006 in Wharton, Texas. She is survived by her daughter May Lou Engelbrecht of Wallis, sons Charles H. Engelbrecht of Wallis, Freddie Engelbrecht and wife Wanda of Wallis, sister-in-law Doris Wilson of LeFera, Texas, grandchildren Darrell Engelbrecht and Joy, Clay Engelbrecht and Karla, Amy Lawry and Neal and great-grandson Jake Engelbrecht. Preceded in death by: her parents, Lawrence A. and Lula Mae Wilson, husband Filbert Engelbrecht, brothers A.J. Wilson and Neariol Wilson.
