Funeral services for Frieda Faist, 98, of New Ulm are set for 2 p.m. Thursday, March 23, 2006, at St. John Lutheran Church in New Ulm with Pastor Bill Mosley officiating. Interment will follow in the New Ulm Cemetery. Friends may call at the Zaskoda Chapel in Industry after 4 p.m. on Tuesday and visitation all day on Wednesday. Frieda Lena (Wassermann) Faist was born April 11, 1907, in Industry, the daughter of Emil and Rosie (Pavelka) Wassermann. She was baptized Jan. 3, 1909, at Salem Lutheran Church in Welcome by Pastor August Betdick and confirmed Dec. 26, 1920, at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Shelby by Pastor Julius Bosshard. She married Bennie E. Faist on Feb. 20, 1929, in New Wehdem by Pastor M.C. Hoermann. A lifetime resident of the New Ulm and Industry areas, she was a member of St. John Lutheran Church and the Sons of Hermann Lodge in New Ulm. A homemaker her entire life, she was a great cook and enjoyed gardening, sewing and collecting family history. Mrs. Faist passed away Sunday, March 19, 2006, in a La Grange nursing home at the age of 98 years, 11 months and 8 days. She is preceded in death by her parents, Emil and Rosie (Pavelka) Wassermann; her husband, Bennie E. Faist; daughter-in-law, June Faist; son-in-law, Dean Venghaus; (3) sisters, Hattie Koch, Carrie Juergens, Gladys Welsch; (5) brothers, Clarence, Edgar, Hugo, Emil and Edwin Wassermann. Survivors include: son Bennie E. Faist, Jr. and wife Lillie of Brenham; daughter, Peggy Venghaus of Frelsburg; grandchildren, Rhonda Maass, Rodney Faist, both of Burton, Gregory Venghaus and wife Edna of Columbus, Patti Glaeser and husband Steven of Frelsburg, Donna Krumrey and husband Frankie of Bellville; 10 great grandchildren; sisters-in-law, Evelyn Faist of Welcome and Annie Wassermann of Latium; numerous nieces and nephews. Active Pallbearers: Clemons Faist, Jr., Lloyd Brandt, Raymond Foerster, Arbie Wassermann, Curt Raeke, Roy Kelm. Honorary Pallbearers: Olan Ashorn, J.P.
