Agnes was born on Sept. 22, 1927, the first child of Paul and Anna (Dobias)
Borak. She attended school in Lane City and East Bernard, graduating from
East Bernard High School in 1944.
After graduating from high school, she worked for Otto's Dry Good and
Grocery Store in East Bernard, where she met her future husband. Agnes
married George Filipp on Oct. 28, 1947 at Holy Cross Catholic Church in East
Bernard. Following their marriage they made their home in East Bernard and
opened their own business, Filipp's Grocery.
After several years in the grocery business, George joined his brother, Joe,
in a new venture, Filipp's Packing Company. In 1958 George and Agnes decided
to move to Sealy and open their own business, Sealy Food Bank.
Following George's death in 1970, she continued to run the business for five
years, eventually selling to Port City Stockyards.
She worked briefly for Production Credit Association and was employed for
many years by Schoebel's Restaurant in Columbus.
Sealy remained home to Agnes until her death.
Agnes was a parishioner at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, a member
of Court St. Elizabeth of the Catholic Daughters, the Altar Society, the
Sealy American Legion Auxiliary, the KJZT, and the Sealy AARP chapter.
Agnes Borak Filipp of Sealy was called home into the arms of her heavenly
Father on Thursday, Sept. 7,2006 in Sealy.
Her beloved husband, her parents and two brothers preceded her in death. Her
daughter, Margaret Singleton and husband Kirby, of Richmond and her son,
Dennis Filipp and wife Pearlie, of Sealy mourn her loss with cherished
memories.
Agnes is also survived by her sister Dorothy Sulak, of East Bernard;
granddaughter Sherry Singleton; great grandson, C.J. Zetterberg, both of
Rosenberg, and several nephews and nieces.
Throughout her life, Agnes demonstrated a love of people, an unfailing sense
of humor, and a work ethic that was a role model to others. She was a
devoted wife and life partner, a loving and attentive mother, a caring
daughter, sister and grandmother, and a loyal friend. She showed compassion
to those less fortunate than herself and will be remembered fondly for her
loving spirit, generosity and strength. Her greatest joy came from spending
time with her family. She will be missed greatly by those who loved her and
those whose lives she touched.
