Graveside services for Willis Danie Hord, Sr. 92,of Houston, were held Saturday, January 7, from Mossy Oaks Ranch Cemetery in Buckhorn with Rev. John Lockhart officiating. Mr. Hord died January 4th in Houston. Born in St. Louis, MO, "Bill" was the son of Sam Rayburn Hord and Floy (Dyer) Hord. He was raised in Missouri and Texas. Bill attended junior college in Wichita Falls, the University of Colorado at Boulder and University of Texas in Austin in 1933. Willis Daniel "Bill" Hord married the former Dorothy Maynelle Bennett in 1936 with ceremony held in the chapel at SMU in Dallas. He was the owner and operator of several Industrial Gas Businesses. "Bill" lived in Dallas, Rockford, IL, Fort Worth and Lubbock for more than 50 years and Houston. He loved to travel on freighter trips to Europe, South America and Asia. Mr. Hord was a lifetime Rotarian. He is survived by his children: W.D. "Dan" Hord, Jr. and wife Janice of Bellville, Susan Hord Acrey and husband Sean of Fort Worth, Rebecca Hord Trail and husband Mel of Houston, grandchildren W.D. "Dan" Hord III and wife Jenni, Shelly Hord Coneby and husband Scott, Holly Hord, Virginia Trail, Sam Trail, and wife Kara, Ian Acrey and Rebecca Acrey and great-grandchildren Will and Clark Coneby, Hunt, Davis and Ellie Hord and Robert and Matthew Trail. Preceded in death by his parents Sam and Floy Hord and wife Dorothy Hord who died on January 23, 2003. Contributions may be made to Bellville Young Life, PO Box 584, Bellville, TX 77418.
