Funeral services for Leon H. Loehr, 86, of Houston, Texas formerly of Peters Community were held Sunday, November 19, 2006 at 2:30 pm from Knesek Bros. Funeral Chapel with Rev. Henry Beseda officating. Interment was at Oak Knoll Cemetery in Bellvile. Serving as pallbearers were Tom Loehr, Mark Herman, Mel Shaw, Michael Snyder, Rod Neumann, Charlie Riniker, and Kerney McCormack, Jr. Born in Peters Community, Texas, Leon was the son of Max and Tillie (Brosig) Loehr. He was raised in Peters and attended Peters School. He graduated from Sealy High School in 1938. Leon went on to further his education by graduating from Southwest Business University in 1940. he served his country during WWII in the United States Army. On February 24, 1946, Leon and the former Miss Virginia Piniker were joined in marriage with the ceremony held in Houston, Texas. Leon worked for 10 years in the accounting area at Freight Transport Company, a division of the Missouri Pacific Railroad in Houston. He then went on to work for Columbia Gulf Transmission in 1956 and retired from the company in 1985 after 29 years in the accounting department. Leon was also a rancher and was a member of Texas Cattle Raisers Association and Austin County Cattleman's Association. Leon H. Loehr passed away on Thursday, November 16, 2006 in Houston, Texas. He is survived by his son, Russell Loehr of Peters, daughters Shirley Brune and husband Ron of Peters and grandchildren, Lehron and Elise Brune. Preceded in death by his parents Max and Tillie Loehr, wife Virginia Loehr, brother Gus Loehr and sister Berdie Mathis. Memorial contributions may be made to the Bluebonnet Chapter of the Texas German Society for Local Scholarships.
