**LESLIE GAIL LOVELL**
Bellville Times Les Lovell was born October 10, 1930 in Ashtola, Texas to parents Edd Wesley and DeEtte Reed Lovell. He was the eldest of four children. Les grew up in the Panhandle of Texas, living in Amarillo until he was almost 11 years old. The family later moved to Lancaster, then to San Antonio, where he graduated from Thomas Edison High School. He received his Bachelor of Arts degree in Sociology form Southwestern University. In 1956 he attained his MST from the Perkins School of Theology, Southern Methodist University. In 1970 Mr. Lovell completed additional studies to earn his M. Ed. in vocational rehabilitation counseling from the University of Texas in Austin. He was a Methodist minister for approximately 18 years, most of which was spent in the Southwest Texas Annual Conference. He especially enjoyed his years in Sabinal and Edcouch, serving small rural congregations. Mr. Lovell was a Boy Scout leader who looked forward to wilderness outings every summer with his scouts. For three years he worked as a crisis counselor on the UT campus. In 1992, he took advantage of an early retirement offer made by the State of Texas and retired form the then Texas Rehabilitation Commission after 22 years of dedicated service. From counselor to program officer to regional director, Les Moved across the state of Texas, in the name of TRC during his state employment, servicing Galveston, Sugar Land, Fort Worth, Lubbock, Houston and Austin regions. Les rated regions by the chicken fried steaks, chicken and dumplings and cherry pies that could be found in the little off-the-beaten road cafes and mom and pop establishments. He was a kind, caring person who always put others before himself. He found great personal pride in being a part of a state agency that helped physically challenged people become self-sufficient citizens. While regional Director in Houston during the mid-1980s, his life changed forever. Les met a real estate broker he called "Maggie," also known as Margie CAT SPRING CEMETERY aka Kollatschny Stolz, and on November 23, 1990 they were married at St. John Lutheran Church in Cat Spring. In 1992, after retiring from the TRC, Les and Maggie moved to Bellville. His hobbies included antique clock repair and restoration, tending to his small herd of cattle in Cat Spring and helping with the Bellville Hospital Auxiliary rummage sales and resale shop. Most recently Les volunteered his time in the hospital lobby, popping popcorn on Tuesday mornings. He was a lifetime member of the Bellville Hospital Auxiliary and a member of the Industry United Methodist Church, which reminded him of the small churches he had pastored years before. He also enjoyed attending St. John Lutheran Church in Cat Spring. Leslie Gail Lovell died at his residence on Tuesday, September 5, 2006 at the age of 75. He is survived by his loving wife: Margie Lovell of Bellville; daughter: Jan and her husband, Gary Bond, of Midland; son: Stephen Lovell of Seattle, Wash.; and granddaughter: Rhonda Bond a sophomore at Texas Tech University. He is also survived by his three sisters and spouses: Joyce and Kenneth Patton of Round Rock; Ouida and Alan Teel of Round Rock; and Sue and Don Brown of Dacula, Ga. Posted by Joy Neely
