Funeral services for Frances Evelyn Neely-Fisher, 87, of Sealy, were held Monday, Sept. 11, 2006 at 10 a.m. from Knesek Bros. Funeral Chapel in Sealy with Pastor Bill Freund officiating. Interment was at the San Felipe Cemetery in San Felipe, TX. Serving as pallbearers were Manny Backstrom, Shane Fortenberry, Janet Johnson, Burkett Neely Jr., Rebekah Sanders and Ron Shelby. Born in Des Moines, Iowa, Frances was the daughter of Ed Toye and Alta Benson Toye. She was raised in the Des Moines, Iowa area and attended public schools there. On December 29, 1940 the former Miss Frances Toye married Mr. Burkett Neely Sr. with ceremony held in Carthage, Missouri. They owned and operated a grocery store in Longville, LA, from 1942 to 1957. Mr. Neely preceded her in death in 1969. In October of 1972, Frances Neely and Mr. S.E. Fisher were married with ceremony held in Anahuac, TX. Mrs. Fisher was a member of the Eastern Star and the Murry St. Baptist Church in Lake Charles, LA. She taught beginner class Sunday School for 35 years. Mr. Fisher preceded her in death in 1997. Frances moved to Sealy and lived with her daughter Peggy for a few years. Frances Evelyn Toye Neely-Fisher died Saturday, Sept. 9, 2006 in Katy. She was survived by her daughters: Peggy Fortenberry and husband Herbert of Sealy; Marshal Scoggin and husband James of Galveston; Lynette Fisher of Lake Charles, LA; sons: Burkett S. Neely Jr. and wife Lea of fort White, FL; W.E. Fisher and wife Laurie of Kyle, TX; sister: Margaret Jackson of De Moines, Iowa; brother and sister in-law: Manny and Ima Lou Backstrom of Fayetteville, Arkansas; grandchildren: Keith Neely and wife Tori; Kevin Neely; Shane Fortenberry and wife Cheryl; Lyn Crowson and husband Chad; Jason Fisher and wife Lynn; Nikolas Fisher; Elizabeth Scoggin; great grandchildren Hunter Neely; Haley; Grant and Will Fortenberry. Preceded in death by her parents: Ed and Alta Toye; husbands: Burkett Neely Sr. and S.E. Fisher; brother: Melvin E. Toye; infant brother: Edward Toye; and two sisters: Thelma Reeves and Charlene Backstrom.
