A funeral service for William Klopsteck Schaer, 88, of Sealy was held at 11 a.m, Monday, September 25, 2006 from the first United Methodist Church in Sealy with the rev. John Tyler officiating. Pallbearers were Dan Cano, John Ayres, Frank Koy, James Schroeder, Wilbert Leschper, Carl Schaer, Wesley Schuknecht and Bill Burttschell. Honorary Pallbearers were George Thielemann, Eugene Himly, Eddie Ray Lux and Clarence McMurrey. Graveside services were held at 2 p.m., Monday at Oak Knoll Cemetery in Bellville with American Legion Post 442 Flag Presentation. William Klopsteck Schaer was born to Carl ernest Schaer and Leonora Klopsteck Schaer on June 27, 1918 in Sealy, Texas. He graduated from Sealy High School in 1936 and from Texas A&M College in 1940 with a degree in Animal Husbandry. William K. and Dorothy Eckelberg were married at St. John's Lutheran Church in Bellville, Texas on April 9, 1950, Easter Sunday. William K. was an active member of the Sealy United Methodist Church, The Methodist Men, The Men's Sunday School Class, Sealy Chamber of Commerce, The Rotary Club, Austin County Farm Bureau, Woodmen of the World, a life member of the American Legion, an Alderman and was on the Sealy City Council. He served his country during World War II in the 105 MM Artillery. He received a head wound during Battle of the Bulge and was awarded a Purple Heart. William K. and his parents owned and operated a general merchandise store, "Schaers" and he also raised beef cattle. He was preceded in death by his parents, a sister, Willie Annie Glover Thompson; and a brother, Carl F.H. Schaer. William K. is survived by his wife, Dorothy of Sealy; a son, Robert Schaer of Crabb; daughter and son in law, Anna and Daniel Cano of Houston; grandson William Daniel Cano; brother Henry Schaer of Houston; and numerous nieces and nephews.
