James Hampton Stewart, 90, of Orchard, Texas died May 5, 2006, at his home. Services were conducted Tuesday, May 9, 2006, at 10 a.m. from Orchard United Methodist Church with Dr. Tom Bain officiating. Interment was at the Pilgrims Rest Cemetery in Bellville. Pallbearers were Stewart Henson, Todd Bone, Kyle Bone, terry Grabow, Bennie Mize, and Adolph Bellinoski. James was born February 6, 1916 in Simonton, the son of Levi Walter and Lucille Hudgens Stewart. He grew up in Simonton and attended school in Simonton and Richmond. On August 3, 1935 James was united in marriage with Nettie Ruth Graf, a union that lasted nearly 71 years. They had two children, Doris Jean and Joyce Marie. After marriage, James made his home in the Orchard area and began his life-long passion of farming. He also supplemented his income for a time by working in the oil field as a "rough neck." After his farming retirement he was known for his wonderful vegetable garden. He called it his hobby; the family called it "overproduction." James loved hunting and was fortunate enough to hunt in many parts of Texas and New Mexico. He was a long time member of the orchard United Methodist Church. He is survived by his wife, Nettie Ruth of Orchard; daughters -- Doris Henson and husband Huey of Orchard; and Joyce Bone and husband Bill of Orchard. His grandchildren are Stewart Henson and wife Elena, Todd Bone and wife Kristine, and Kyle Bone and wife Christine. Also surviving are great-grandchildren Sarah and Matthew Bone, Alyssa and Michael Bone, and Isabel Henson. He also leaves nieces, Barbara Knutson and husband Vernon, Patsy Philippus and husband Melvin, and nephew Hubert Cox Jr. and wife Dorothy. James was preceded in death by his parents, sister and brother-in-law Katherine and Hubert Cox and nephew James Cox.
