Henry Grawunder passed away Sunday, Oct. 7, 2007. Henry was born March 25, 1926 in Bellville to Henry Charles and Clara (Kachele) Grawunder. Henry grew up in Bellville and graduated in 1943. He was baptized Methodist faith. Henry served on many committees; trustee financial commander and member of D.V.A., Farm Bureau Cattle Assoc., Chamber of Commerce, VFW Post 6522, Retail Merchants, N.A.R.S.P. Radiator Board and School Board. He served as Mayor of Bellville for two years. He was a member of the Methodist Men, and owned and operated the Bellville Grawunder Field and was also a pilot. Henry took over his fathers cattle raising after his death. On April 12, 1947 Henry married the love of his life, Alberta Louise Garling and was married for 60 years. Henry leaves behind son, Gary and wife Gladys of Bellville, daughter, Kay and husband Bob Johnson of Baytown, four grandchildren, Richard Grawunder and Tina of Brenham, Rhonda Grawunder of Bellville, Beth and Matt Hamilton of Baytown; two great grandchildren, Christian Grawunder of Brenham and Kaymen Brosh of Baytown. Henry worked for Ed Dittart Grocery., Monroe Albert Motor Company, Riniker International Tractor Dealer and Santa-Fe Railroad. Henry opened Henryıs Radiator Shop in 1954 turning it into a auto parts store, leaving the tradition to his son Gary in 1977. Henry served in World War II as a Staff Sergeant in the South Pacific from 1944 to 1947. After having his leg crushed by an Army truck in Japan he was able to come home after 10 months. Henry was a good mentor to his children teaching them his love, working ethics and ways of life. Gary and Kay have wonderful memories of flying trips to many destinations. Family received friends on Tuesday, Oct. 9, 2007 from 5 p.m to 8 p.m. at Knesek Bros. Funeral Chapels, 842 E. Main, Bellville, Texas. A V.F.W. Memorial Service was held at 7 p.m. Funeral Services were held Wednesday, Oct. 10, 2007 at 1 p.m. from Bellville United Methodist Church, Bellville with the Rev. Robert Stutes, officiating. Burial was in Oak Knoll Cemetery. Pallbearers were Richard Grawunder, Matt Hamilton, John Steinbuck, Billy Jalloway, Royce Garling, Dennis Tipton, Bobby Fick, and Matt Waak. The members of the V.F.W. Post 6522 served as honorary pallbearers. Services under the direction of Knesek Family Funeral Chapel in Bellville. Posted by Joy Neely
