Herbert Huey Henson, 72, of Orchard, TX, went home to be with his Lord on Tuesday, October 16, 2007 at M.D. Anderson Hospital in Houston. Services were held at 10 a.m., Saturday, Oct. 20, 2007 at Orchard United Methodist Church with Dr. Tom Bain officiating. Burial was at Pilgrim's Rest Cemetery in Bellville. Huey was born in Hempstead, TX on July 11, 1935 to parents William Gardner and Thelma Lynne Dewees Henson. He was raised and attended grade school at Hempstead and was a 1953 graduate of Hempstead High School. Huey attended Blinn Junior College in Brenham on an athletic scholarship for both football and basketball, was a 1976 graduate of Sam Houston State University, and received his Master's Degree at Prairie View A&M College in agriculture. He was a member of NRA, the 100 club and enjoyed his passion for hunting and his coon hounds in the Brazos River bottom, and he loved to catch cat fish, he was a very competitive domino player and enjoyed growing vegetables and gardening. Huey served his country for two years in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict. He married the former Miss Doris Stewart on may 3, 1958 in the Orchard United Methodist Church where they have been members for the duration of their marriage of nearly 50 years. Throughout his life, Herbert was a successful farmer and rancher in Burleson and Ft. Bend Co. He spent 49 years as a resident of Orchard and worked for 36 years as floor manager in pipe manufacturing for Gulf States Tube in Rosenberg. He supplemented his income by being a weekend rancher at Caldwell, TX. Pallbearers were Karl Kelly, Marshall Melner, Peter Kirkpatrick, Junior Murphy, Herbert Ubemosky and Daniel Gejewski. Huey is survived by his wife, Doris Henson of Orchard; son, Stewart; granddaughter, Isabel; and mother-in-law, Nettie Ruth Stewart; sister, Lynne Condon; nephew, Joe Manley; a sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Joyce and Bill Bone; and nephews Todd and Kyle Bone. He was preceded in death by parents, William and Thelma Henson; brothers, William Gardner, Lamar and Jack Henson. Special thanks to Bobby Majej and Jr. Murphy for all their support.
