Funeral services were conducted at 3 p.m., Friday, September 14, 2007 at Schmidt Funeral Home Chapel, Bellville, for Grace Bradshaw Kenter, with the Rev. Randy Mitchell and Chaplain Bill Davis, officiating. Interment followed at Oak Knoll Cemetery. Grace Bradshaw Kenter, 90, beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and dear, loyal friend, died peacefully Saturday, September 8, 2007. She was born at home in Bellville on October 26, 1916, to Anna Elvira and Jesse Allen Bradshaw. She was the last of six children. After spending her early years in Bellville, and graduating from high school there, she worked for Bellville Superintendent of Schools until 1937, when she married her high school sweetheart, Franklin B. Kenter. They settled in Houston, where they great a beautiful, strong family and home, supported their church, and provided an example of love, strength and old fashioned values. Grace was active in the life of her community, contributing to numerous clubs where she held leadership positions. Dear to her heart was The Ladies Reading Club of Houston. During more than 30 years of membership she served as president, 1982-84, Hospitality Chair, Secretary and Historian, and earned lifetime privileged membership. In addition, she was a member of The Guild of Houston Baptist University, Milford House, the Shepherd School of Music, and the City Federation of Women's Clubs where she held the office of VP and again earned lifetime membership. Countless friends and family knew her as a loving and steadfast writer of notes and cards, conveying thoughtful messages of encouragement and love, which was an almost daily practice continued well into her 90th year. Grace is survived by her daughters: Joy Kenter Holland and husband, Nick, and Mija Kenter Lane; her son: Mark D. Kenter; and her daughter-in-law: Anne C. Kenter. She is also survived by her grandchildren: Jana Basili and husband, Steve, Nancy Bevers, Allison Kenter Sethney and husband, Bryan, Brad Kenter, Kyle and Kelli Kenter; and great-grandchildren: Michael and David Basili, and Olivia Jean Sethney; and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition, Grace is survived by her Goddaughter: Susan Montgomery Cravey, and her valued friend and attorney: Bill Lane. She was preceded in death by her husband of 68 years, Franklin B. Kenter, and by her beloved son, John Franklin Kenter, as well a her parents, brothers and sisters. Grace's family wishes to recognize and thank everyone at University Place, and especially the nurses and patient care staff for their tender loving care. Pallbearers were Brad Kenter, Bryan Sethney, Aubrey Lewis, Kyle Kenter, Paul Cravey, Keith Holland and Juan Bejar. Honorary pallbearers were Nick Holland, Corky Kenter, Alan Bradshaw, Bill Lane, Kenneth Bradshaw, and Donald Bradshaw.
