DR. GEORGE L. MARCOULIER
Bellville Times
 
Dr. George L. Marcoulier, Bellville, TX, formerly of Canaan, NH and
Arlington, Mass died Thursday, January 4, 2007 in Bellville, Texas.
Born September 8, 1930, in North Attleboro, Mass., he was raised by Edward
J. and Annie Esther Day in Arlington, Mass. from the age of 3. He attended
schools in Arlington and graduated from A.H.S. in 1948 where he lettered in
football as their quarterback.
Enlisting in the United States Air Force in January 1951 and George was
station at Lackland Field in San Antonio, TX. He received radio training at
Keesler Field in Biloxi, Miss., where he met his future wife, L. Sue Myers,
student at Mississippi Southern College. They were married on December 24,
1951 at Goodwater Church in Magee, Miss. He was then stationed at Randolph
AFB, San Antonio, where he met with his B-29 bomber cew for training. After
training, George then went to Forbes AFB in Topeka, Kansas before being
transferred overseas to Okinawa, Kadena AFB. In July 1952, his crew, the
307th Bomb Wing Squadron, flew 31 bombing missions over North Korea. He
returned to the U.S. in February 1953, and was station at Hunter AFB in
Savannah, GA., until his discharge in Janaury 1955. His military awards
include the Distinguished Flying Cross, the Air Medal, the Korean War
Service Medal and the Air Force Good Conduct Medal.
Upon discharge, he attended the University of Mass., Amherst and graduated
cum laude in 1958. His first job after college was at Cardigan Mountain
School, a pre-prep private school in Canaan, NH. (He subsequently worked 11
substances at CMS.) He entered the University  of Southern Mississippi and
received his MS degree in 1959 and Doctorate of Education in 1963. George
taught for many years at institution including Plymouth State College in NH,
Loyola University in New Orleans, Aroostook State Teacher's College (now
University  of Maine at Presque Isle), and Dartmouth College in Hanover, NH.
He taught and served as Vice President of Canaan, NH. and also named the
Distinguished Educators of America publication in 1963.
George is survived by his wife of 55 years: Sue Marcoulier of Bellville,
Texas; sons Michael Marcoulier of Sugarland, Texas and mitchell Marcoulier
of Thousand Oaks, CA; daughter Michelle Marcourlier of Houston, Texas;
grandchildren Elizabeth, Nicholas, Marisa and Matthew; brothers John Day and
Joseph Daly both of Arlington, Mass., and many nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, January 13 2007, at 2:00 PM at
the First National Baptist Church in Bellville, Texas.
