Reuben Otto Mikeska, 97, of Brenham died Friday, January 5, 2006 in Brenham Rest Home. Mr. Mikeska was born in Nelsonville, Texas on February 16, 1909 to Frank and Henrietta Leps Mikeska. On November 10, 1912, he was baptized at Nelsonville Brethren Church in Nelsonville by Rev. A. Montyaka and confirmed June 8, 1935 at St. Paul's Lutheran Church of Phillipsburg by Rev. C. R. Hasskarl. He received his education at Travis School located near Kenney, Texas. On December 20, 1938 he was wed to Edna Emshoff at St. James Lutheran Church of New Wehdem by Rev. R. A. Schmidt. Before moving to Brenham in 1994, Mr. Mikeska was engaged in farming and ranching in Kenney and worked as a carpenter for 20 years most of which time with his good friend and neighor Paul Loesch. He was a member of St. James Lutheran Church of New Wehdem where he served on the church council and numerous committees and also served on the Kenney-New Wehdem school board. His parents, brothers Robert, Alfred, Edwin, Frank and Ferry, sisters Ella Tegeler and Hilda Mikeska preceded him in death. His family includes his wife of 68 years Edna Mikeska of Brenham; daughter Joy Dell DeWitt and husband James of Alvin; sons Rueben Mikeska of Brenham and Robert Mikeska and wife Marita of Brenham; grandchildren Tanya DeWitt Overby and husband Kurt, James bart and Kristal DeWitt, Stephanie Mikeska Cambron and husband Josh, Stephen Mikeska, Michele Mikeska and special friend Michael Nagy; great-grandchildren Tiffany and Mason Natale, Jamie DeWitt and Ellison Overby; sister-in-law Bernice Mikeska of Waller along with numerous nieces and nephews. Visitation will be from 4:00 to 6:00 pm, Saturday, January 6, 2007 at Brenham Memorial Chapel. Funeral services are 2:00 pm, Sunday, January 7, 2007 at St. James Evangelical Lutheran Church of New Wehdem with Pastor Jon Siemsglusz officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Pallbearers will be Eugene Tegeler, Delano Mikeska, Floyd Mikeska, Maurice Hart, Donald Huebner, Rev. Stanley Eckermann, Stephen Mikeska and Bart DeWitt. Honorary pallbearers will be Walter Thielemann, Norman Hodde, Wilbert Eickhoff, Bennie Emshoff and Arthur "Bubba" Brau. Memorials may be given to St. James Lutheran Church Cemetery Fund, 10362 New Wehdem Road, Brenham, TX 77833 or plant a tree in his memory.
