Pfeffer Eline Brast Pfeffer was born Jan. 4, 1913 in the Oak Hill Community in Austin County. The daughter of Fritz F. and Clara Muensch Brast, she grew up and attended school in Oak Hill. On Jan. 1, 1932, she married Wesley William Pfeffer in Hempstead. They made their home in Bellville on the Pfeffer homestead for about 4 years. They then lived in Simonton and Rosenberg before returning to Bellville where they were members of St. John Lutheran Church. Eline helped Wesley with the farming and ranching, and had also been employed at Joe Frank, Inc. as a seamstress. Wesley preceded Eline in death on April 20, 1985. An excellent cook, she enjoyed baking, sewing, gardening and playing dominoes with friends and family. As long as her health permitted, she always kept her house spotless. Her favorite saying was, "Those days are gone, but not forgotten." Eline passed away Friday, Feb. 2, 2007 in a Sealy nursing facility at the age of 94. She is survived by her sons and daughters-in-law Milton and Carole Pfeffer, and Wilford and Gloria Pfeffer, all of Bellville; grandchildren Patti and Dale Sommerlatte of Bellville, Donna and Steve Schmidt of Brookshire, Belinda and Stanley Jackson of Bellville, and Jan and Jack Barnett of La Porte; 6 great grandchildren Captain Steven Schmidt, Jr., U.S. Army, Iraq and his wife, Dawn, of Deland, Florida, Kelley Sommerlatte of Humble, 2nd Lt. Ryan Schmidt, U.S. Army, Korea, Brittney Oppermann of Troy, N.Y., Lindsey Sommerlatte of Huntsville and Briana Oppermann of College Station; sister-in-law Gladys Pfeffer of Bellville; and numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, 2 sisters, Josie Stamnitz and Hilda Grayless, and 3 brothers, Hugo, Fritz and Alvin Brast. Funeral service was 3 p.m., Monday, Feb. 5, 2007 at Schmidt Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Jennie Jones, officiating. Interment followed in Pilgrims Rest Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers were: Les Krancher, Ernest Feik, Larry Pfeffer, Kirby Krancher, Shannon Johnson and Sammy Pfeffer. In lieu of usual remembrances, friends who wish may make memorial gifts to: St. John Lutheran Church, 520 North Holland, Bellville, Texas 77418.
