Funeral Services for William Julius Schaffner, age 100, of the Millheim Community were held Friday, December 7, 2007 at St. John Lutheran Church in Cat Spring, TX at 2 p.m. with Rev. Kevin Haug officiating. Interment was at Millheim Cemetery. Pallbearers for the service were Ronnie Luhn, Mike Michalke, Steve Fleming, James Schaffner,Jr., T.J. Minke, James Froebel, Ron Luhn, Bill Hohlt, Brandon Michalke and Nathan Michalke. Honorary Pallbearers were, Larry Uhlig, Otto Reichart Jr., Tyler Hohlt, Kyle Luhn, Wyatt Hohlt, Joshua Fleming and Michaela Fleming. William Julius Schaffner was born in Millheim, Austin County, Texas to parents, Julius E. Schaffner and Clara Kretzschmar Schaffner and was baptized and confirmed on August 25, 1946 at St. John Lutheran Church in Bellville. He attended Millheim public school. William and the former Miss Hilma Luedecke were married on February 20, 1929 in Bellville. He was a farmer and rancher and enjoyed being with family and friends. He also served as a substitute rural mail carrier for Cat Spring Post Office for 27 years. His many hobbies included hunting, trapping and gardening. He was a member of St. John Lutheran Church, Cat ³Spring, Sons of Herman Lodge # 299 and Millheim Harmonie Hall. Survivors include daughter, Ruby Luhn of Brenham, son, Billy Schaffner and wife Doris of Sealy, grandchildren, Ronnie Luhn and wife Dotsy of Brenham, Debbie Howell and husband Clarence of Redondo Beach, CA., Laurie Michalke and husband Mike of Sealy, Beth Ann Fleming and husband Steve of New Waverly, great-grandchildren, Christi Hohlt and husband Bill of Brenham, Ron Luhn and special friend Veronica Majewski of Brenham, Brandon Michalke of Sealy, Nathan Michalke of Sealy, Joshua Fleming of New Waverly, Michaela Fleming of New Waverly, Clarence Howell, Jr., Joshua Howell, Michael Howell, and Mikayla Howell all of Redondo Beach, CA, great-great grandchildren, Tyler Hohlt, Wyatt Hohlt and Kyle Luhn of Brenham, sisters-in-law, Eileen Luedecke of Spring, Esther Luedecke of Cat Spring, numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife Hilma Schaffner on Sept. 16, 1999, brother, James Schaffner, sisters, Mabel Ellett, Anita Froebel ,infant great-granddaughter, Sarah Beth Fleming and son-in-law, Felix Luhn.
