Funeral services for Henry Herman "Smokey" Schrader, Jr., 81, of Bellville, were held Thursday, June 7, 2007 at 10 a.m. from St. John Lutheran Church in Bellville with the Rev. Jennie Jones and the Rev. David Henske co-officiating. Interment was at Oak Knoll Cemetery in Bellville. Pallbearers serving were Kelly Schrader, Kris Schrader, Justin Schrader, Jody Lightfoot, John Ness and Aaron Teltschik. Henry Herman "Smokey" Schrader, Jr., was born in the Coshatte Community, Austin County, son of Henry Herman Schrader, Sr., and Annie Hold Schrader. He was baptized Feb. 28,1926 and confirmed on April 2,1939, at St. John Lutheran Church, Bellville. He attended Coshatte Elementary School and Bellville High School, Blinn College in Brenham and Houston Community College. After graduating high school, he worked for his father and neighbors doing farm work. On Jan. 4, 1945, he was inducted into the U.S. Army and discharged Sept. 9, 1946, as a Tech 4 Sergeant. On Feb. 19, 1948, he married Meta L. Hohlt at St. John Lutheran Church in Bellville. To this union were born two sons, Charles and Glen. Meta died on April 3, 1960. On Aug. 22, 1961, he married Genelle Holland Cozzens, who died July 1, 2000, after 38 years of marriage. Henry taught Sunday school and served two terms on the church council, managed a Little League baseball team, was a charter member of the Bellville Little League Association. He retired from the Santa Fe Railroad as mechanical foreman after 38 years of service. He also worked in the Austin County Tax Collector's office for three years. Henry retired to the farm where he was born and raised and was engaged in raising cattle. He was a member of St. John Lutheran Church; Coshatte Agriculture Society, where he was a past president; Bellville Masonic Lodge, where he is past Worshipful Master. He is survived by one brother, Leon of Teague; sons, Charles a d his wife Yolanda of Groves and Glen and his wife Elizabeth of Bellville; seven grandchildren, Shandi Teltschik, Justin Schrader, Kelly Schrader, Kris Schrader, Lucy Ness, Jody Lightfoot and Alyssa Milne, four great grandchildren Charley Ann Teltschik, Ethan Lightfoot, Brittany Kieke and Cullen Schrader and numerous nieces, nephews and friends. He is preceded in death by his parents Henry Herman Schrader, Jr. and Annie Schrader, wife Meta, wife Genelle, four brothers Owen, William, Herbert and Monroe Schrader and one stepson, Tom Cozzens.
