Skrivanek Ladis "Ladie" Frank Skrivanek, 84, passed away peacefully Monday, Sept. 24, 2007 at his home in Bellville. Ladis was born in Wallis the son of John V. and Albina M. (Elsik) Skrivanek. He was raised in Mixville and San Felipe where he attended two room schools. Ladis attended Sealy High School and graduated from San Jacinto High School in Houston. He worked at a Shell gas station with his Uncle Frank and Aunt Billie Elsik in Pasadena and the Houston Shipyard. Ladis served his country in the United States Army in the Philippines from 1944-45. After the war he bought the Shell service station from his uncle. He went to work at the Shell Refinery in the environmental department retiring in 1985 after 34 years. Ladis married Eleanor Reed in 1948 and they resided in Pasadena with their children, Debra Ann and James Ladis. Ladis was an avid fisherman and hunter. He also enjoyed traveling visiting most of the 50 U.S. states, Mexico, Canada, England, and Western Europe at the time the Berlin Wall was coming down in 1990. Ladis was united in marriage to Shirley Stallsmith Hammitt on Nov. 19, 1988 at the First Presbyterian Church, Sealy. He was active in the Masonic Lodge #223, and was serving as Chaplain at the V.F.W. Post #6522 and the American Legion Post #0115. He also belonged to the Sportsman Club. He was a member of the Bellville United Methodist Church and Joy Sunday School Class. Ladis is survived by his wife Shirley Skrivanek of Bellville; son James Skrivanek of Franklin; granddaughter Amanda Gaddis of Austin; sister Esther Breeden of Bryan; aunt Lena Skrivanek of San Felipe; stepson Kevin Applegate of Meadville, Penn., step grandchildren, Jude Malke, Jade and Maxfield Applegate, all of Pennsylvania and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, sister-in-laws and many good friends. Ladis was preceded in death by his first wife, Eleanor Reed Skrivanek, parents John V. and Albina M. Skrivanek, daughter, Debra Mann, and brothers, Johnney and Robert Skrivanek. Family will receive friends on Saturday, Oct. 6, 2007 at 11:30 a.m. in the Welcome Center of the Bellville United Methodist Church with a memorial service at noon with the Rev. Robert Stutes officiating. Members of the Masonic Lodge 223 presented Ladis a certificate and 50-year pin on Sept. 3, his 84th birthday. A Masonic Memorial Service will be conducted by Bellville Lodge 223, A.F. & A.M. following the memorial service. A prayer will be given by Brother Henry Besada, Brethren Church. A private inurnment of Ladis' ashes will take place at Houston National Cemetery, Houston following a Flag Folding Ceremony conducted by the Memorial Team of American Legion Post #521, Pasadena. Ladis served as a member of this memorial team for several years. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the American Cancer Society, P.O.
