Ida Louiza Washington was born Sept. 10, 1907 in Waller County to parents Leonard and Lucy Machon Hawkins. A devoted member of the Richard Grove A&M Methodist Church in Raccoon Bend, Mrs. Washington was often referred to as one of the "mothers of the church." She was also a member of the Heroines of Jericho. She passed away in Bellville on Wednesday, June 20, 2007, at the age of 99. She is survived by her grandson Willie Loyd Harris of Houston; 2 great granddaughters Renee Harris and Danisha Harris, both of Houston; great-great grandson Fred Harris; 2 great-great granddaughters and a social niece Ollie Mae Mays; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends. Mrs. Washington was preceded in death by her husband, Emanuel Washington, in the 1950s; daughter Rosalee Harris; sisters, Jennie Love, Eddie J. Austin, Carrie Hawkins, Ella Clark, Honey Clark, Jennie Scott and Rosetta and her brother Ed Clark. Funeral service was 10 a.m., Monday, June 25, 2007 from Schmidt Funeral Home Chapel in Bellville with the Rev. Willie Jackson officiating. Her nephews served as pallbearers. Interment was in Richard Grove Cemetery in Raccoon Bend. Posted by Joy Neely
