Melvin Dell Young, 57, of Tempe, Ariz. passed away on Friday morning. May 18, 2007 after a two year battle with cancer. He was born Aug. 25, 1949 to L.D. and Annie Young ofTulia, Texas. He was a graduate of Kress High School and earned his bachelors and masters degrees from Texas A&M. While at A&M his activities included the Little Southwestern Show, Ag Council, wool judging team, livestock judging team, and President of the Saddle and Sirloin Club. He married Susan Witte on June 2, 1973. He is a former Kyrene 4-H leader, past chairman of the Day Spring United Methodist Church administrative board and was appointed by Arizona Governors Jane Hull and Bruce Babbitt to the Arizona State Board of Appraisers where he served two terms as chairperson. For the past 12 years he has been owner and president of Aztec Agricultural Group, Inc. He is survived by his wife Susan of almost 34 years and his children Sarah Kate of Fort Worth and Mark Douglas of Chandler, Arizona. Also survived by his siblings Maxine (Billy Ray) Carter of Sundown, Texas, Judine (Dennis) Wilks of Tulia, Boyd (Kay) of Tulia and Stanley of Lubbock and mother-in-law Viola Witte of Bellville. A celebration of his life was held at Day spring United Methodist Church, Tempe, Arizona at 4 p.m., Monday, May 21. Services were held Wednesday, May 23, at 2 p.m. from Tulia United Methodist Church followed by burial in Rose Hill Cemetery.
