Bellville Times
Herbert John Zander was born November 24, 1910 in the Ives Creek
Community in Austin County, Texas, the son of Richard and Annie
Heel Zander. He grew up and attended school in the Ives Creek
Community. He was confirmed on April 10, 1927 by Pastor J.R.
Pock in the St. John Lutheran Church in Bellville.
Herbert was united in marriage with Edna Ludwig on September 24,
1939 in Sealy, Texas. They have made their home in the Ives
Creek Community where Herbert was a farmer. A member of St.
John Lutheran Church, he loved the cattle business and being
with his family, and was a member of the Sons of Hermann.
He passed away suddenly on Sunday, November 2, 1997 at the age
of 86 years, 11 months and 8 days.
He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Edna Zander of
Bellville; daughters, Anita Kramer and Gladys Grawunder and her
husband, Gary, all of Bellville; grandchildren, Dr. Traci Kramer
of West Virginia; Richard Grawunder of Bellville; Anni Brunker
and her husband Vernon Jr., of Caldwell; Tiffany Kramer of
Lubbock; Rhonda Grawunder of Bellville; numerous other relatives
and many friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a sister, Anita Hoff,
and his son-in-law, Edward P. Kramer.
Funeral Services were held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 4, 1997 at
the Schmidt Funeral Home Chapel in Bellville with Pastor Willie
Rotter officiating. Interment followed in the Pilgrims Rest
Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Roy, Earl and Dave Hamm, Johnny Busse, Richard
Grawunder, Vernon Brunker, Jr. Honorary pallbearers were Wally
Cano Jr., Father Leon, Donnie and Willie Streider, Rev. Douglas
Kabell.
In lieu of usual remembrances, friends who wish may make
memorial gifts to St. John Lutheran Church
