January 29, 1999 Page 4 Bernhard “Bennie Mahlmann, 91, of the New Wehden community died Tuesday in Brenham Rest Home. He was born June 25, 1906 in Welcome, Texas, the son of George and Emma (Huebner) Mahlmann. He was baptized July 29, 1907 in Welcome Lutheran Church by the Rev. G. Stricker and confirmed April 22, 1922 in the same church by the Rev. Apple. He was educated in Concordia School in Welcome. On Nov. 11, 1928, he was married to Augusta Winkelmann b the Rev. M. C. Hermann in St. James Lutheran Church of New Wehdem, where they were the second couple to be married in the new church. Mr. Mahlmann was a farmer and rancher until he retired. He was an active member of St. James Lutheran Church of New Wehdem. Survivors include his daughter, Erline Sommerfeld of Brenham, granddaughter and her husband, Karan and Fred Heidemann of Austin; and great-grandson, Joshua Heidemann of Austin. He was preceded in death by his wife of 66 years, Augusta Mahlmann on Dec. 3, 1994, parents, four brothers; seven sisters; and son-in-law, Otto C. Sommerfeld. The funeral will be Thursday at 10 a.m. in St. James Lutheran Church of New Wehdem with Pastor Nancy Fisher officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends and relatives at Memorial Oaks Chapel from 6-8 p. m. Wednesday. Memorials may be given to St. James Lutheran Church Cemetery at New Wehdem or a favorite charity. Friends will serve as pallbearers. Funeral arrangements are entrusted to Memorial Oaks Chapel, 1306 W. Main, Brenham. Posted by Joy Neely
