This is a compilation of surnames of New Baden's early European immigrant settlers and their descendants from the 1920 U.S. Census.  Since name, place of birth, and immigration year were of primary importance to the researcher compiling this data, additional information recorded in the census (property ownership, education, etc.) is not reflected here.  Please consult the source materials to obtain this information.  Note:  Although this is the "official" U.S. Census, there appear to be quite a few errors in it, ranging from wrong first names to wrong birthplaces.  Given this, the information contained herein should be corroborated from other sources.

This online version of the 1920 New Baden Census is dedicated to Paul Jacob Dieckmann, who enumerated the New Baden & Easterly parts of this census.  Born 12.6.1896, Paul was the son of Jacob and Marie Catharina Luedemann Dieckmann of New Baden.  Rather than simply filling in the country of birth for many of New Baden's immigrants and their parents, Paul put forth the extra effort to provide the names of the European regions and towns from which they came.  Paul, who was New Baden's mail carrier, married Edna Bernice Brunette on 8.24.1927.  A brief four and one-half months later, on 1.12.1928, he was killed at the age of 31 in a riding accident near his family's home.  His young widow, Edna, later married Raymond Rudolph Reichert.  She taught school in New Baden & Franklin for years.

* There appears to be a page numbering error for the Albert Peters family (household 67-71) on pages 184-02A and 184-12A.  Three of the Peters' children are listed on page 184-02A.  But, the husband, wife, & another child are listed in the same household number on page 184-12A.
